My name is Isabelle and I am a Black millennial trying to navigate this world of adulting while trying to keep my health in check.

I’m a proud Haitian-American (who has the Kreyol-speaking skills of a Haitian toddler…but we are trying), a medical student, and a lover of naps.
When I’m not studying or napping, I’m brainstorming and collaborating with my favorite Black millennials to create health content that speaks to our community.
I grew up on Long Island (#strongisland) in a town where not a lot of people looked like me.
Then, I went to Brown University where (despite the name) there were more people who did not look like me. While at Brown, I typed away at my computer keys as a contributing writer for The Brown Daily Herald. I also interned at Black Entertainment Television as a National News intern.
And now, I’m in medical school where there are even more people who do not look like me.
As I got older, I also realized that this adulting shit is hard and it’s even harder when you are Black. In my classes, it was made very clear that Blackness did not equate to wellness or prosperity of health. Black people are more likely to get this disease, have that condition, or die earlier. The professors would go on like a broken record.
So, I started For Black Health in order to create a collection of content that speaks to the next generation up.
We are on our way to adulthood. There are some things we would like to do differently. I hope this site provides you with some direction, clarity, and most importantly, community.
Because the only people that have got us are us.
